Leadership is a
dilemma.
If you try something new
and it succeeds, many will admire your success. Some will ask you to
do it 15% better next year.
If you try and it fails,
many will blame you for their lost hopes and expectations. Some will
say "If you hadn't tried, how would we have ever known?"
If you are open and
candid, many will appreciate your honesty. Some will use your
honesty to say it's all your fault!
If you help others. many
will thank you for spending your time and talents on their problem.
Some will say you're interfering and too hands on.
If you stay out of other
people's business, many will appreciate the space you give them to be the
best they can be. Some will say you're not in touch with what's
going on.
If you speak out
against the prevailing trend, many will admire your courage and
conviction. Some will say you're not much of a team player.
If you work a productive
eight hour day, many will thank you for your efforts and contributions.
Some will say that if you really cared you'd work weekends too.
If you do what's asked
of you, many will commend your reliable and consistently high standards of
work. Some will say, "Why didn't you do more?"
If you enforce company
policies, many will appreciate your consistency. Some will hold it
against you because they were here long before the policy!

I admire leaders because
it takes guts to be a leader. May you enjoy the rewards that come
with putting your neck on the line, in your career, your wallet and in
your personal growth and satisfaction.
I hope you and your
family will enjoy a wonderful Christmas holiday, and a most prosperous
2006. Thank you for allowing me the privilege of coming into your
email box throughout 2005. I hope to announce major new news in
January! Until then, be well.
